Heritage Search Tools

Heritage History is an electronic library which contains over ten thousand pages of history related information, including books, maps, images, war and battle information, and other resources. We have provided a variety of search tools to help users find stories, information, and and images of particular interest to them, and also to help those who just want to browse our offerings.

In a regular library, most users find books by using a system which allows searches by author, title, and subject. Books are the smallest "unit" of information, and are organized using the Dewey Decimal system.

The Heritage History library is organized somewhat differently. Because it is an electronic library, it is easy to search all the way down to the chapter level, and because it contains only history-related books, we are able to anticipate the need for certain types of specialized searches.

In addition to books, our library contains many other resources that can searched for or browsed. These include images, timelines, character summaries, maps, war summaries and organized reading lists.

Almost everyone is familiar with search-engine style searches, and Heritage History now has a "google" style search which can be used to search its entire database. This style of search, however, has its limits. It is very effective for finding specific text files and images, but less helpful for general browsing, and viewing the full extent of what the Heritage History library has to offer.

With this in mind, Heritage History has provided several other search tools that may be helpful when looking up information by general subject or category, rather than searching for a specific text-string.

In addition to looking up books, specific topics of interest, and characters, Heritage History has tools and links that allow you to locate images, timelines, maps, lists of battles, and information about specific wars.
