Classical Curriculum CD

The Ancient Rome Classical Curriculum includes engaging books for students of all abilities, from short anecdotes of early Roman heroes that fascinate youngsters to sophisticated stories of polical turmoil and decadence in the imperial era that provide food for thought to older students. All were written by first-rate scholars who loved their subjects and understood how to introduce students to the delights of classical history. Alfred J. Church, Jacob Abbott, Mary Macgregor, and W. H. Weston are just a few of the exceptional authors who contributed to the Ancient Greece collection, and one would be hard pressed to find classical scholars of equal talent writing for children today.

One of the delightful things about Roman History is that it appeals strongly to students of a variety of ages. The romantic stories of the early Romans, such as Horatio and Cincinnatus, are especially interesting to grammar school age students. The gripping tales of the Punic Wars, and the intense drama of the age of Julius Caesar are appealing to middle school students, and older students are likely to reflect on the disturbing similarities between the decadent excesses of the late empire and our own age.

The pre-printed version of the Study Guide includes color maps and charts, timelines, recommended core reading for beginner, intermediate, and advanced readers, geography terms, outline maps, binder covers, historical era summaries, list of prominant characters, and accountability records. It is useful for memorization and review, and will help students to understand the historical framework of the civilization which they are studying.

Printed Color Study Guide: $24.99

A downloadable version of the Ancient Rome Study Guide can also be purchased without the complete Curriculum CD. This is an appropriate option for families that would like to follow the Heritage Classical Curriculum study program, but perfer to purchase their books one-at-a-time, or read the text directly from the Heritage website.

Dowloadable Study Guide: $12.99

Whether one buys a printed Study Guide, prints portions of it from the Curriculum CD, or buys a downloadable version, we recommend that all students who are using the Heritage Classical Curriculum keep a history notebook on hand for tracking progress and reviewing lessons. Even if most reading is done electronically, keeping a Study Guide on hand, with its instructive collection of reference material, is likely to reinforce a students understanding of the material he reads, and help him see the events he reads about in their historical perspective.
