Heritage Study Guides
Heritage History provides pre-printed Study Guides to accompany each of its
Classical Curriculum CD's. Each Study Guide includes historical maps,
outline maps, timelines, era summaries, character lists, battle dictionaries,
recommending reading lists and other study aids. The Study Guides were
designed to provide reference materials that complement the reading program
and to assure instructors that their students remember the basic facts
associated with each historical era.
Each study Guide is provided in both a pre-printed, and a downloadable PDF version.
However, the PDF version of the Study Guide is included on the curriculum CD, so
families who have purchased the curriculum CD do not need to purchase a separate
Study Guide. However, as a convenience to families
who don't have access to low-cost color printers, we provide ready-to-use,
pre-printed Study Guides. The pre-printed
guides are ready to be placed in any standard three ring binder and include front and back covers.
The downloadable Study Guide is identical to the Study Guide provided on the
Curriculum CD. It can be used by families who would prefer to purchase individual books
for their reading program, or who choose to read recommended books directly from the
Heritage History webpage.
More information about the contents of the Study Guide is provided here.
The following Study Guides are currently available:

British Empire
The British Study Guide covers the rise of British colonies in the 18th century
through the First World War. During this period Britain was at the height of her
power. Two divisions in the study guide provide a broad overview of domestic developments
in Britain, including the scientific and industrial revolutions. The other six provide
an in depth look at British colonies and British influence on world civilization. Regional
histories include Ireland, Australia, Canada, British Africa, British India, and other
developments in Asia.
The guide also includes review material and accountabilty records

Young Readers
The Young Readers Teacher's Guide
is configured differently from the others, since it includes history stories from much of
world history rather than focusing primarily on a single civilization. Its study aids,
therefore, provide a broad overview of major historical divisions rather than detailed
summaries of civilization-specific eras. Instead of historical maps, the Teacher's Guide
contains information directed to parents and instructors of young history students.

Whether one buys a printed Study Guide, or prints portions of it from the Curriculum CD, we recommend that
all students who are using the Heritage Classical Curriculum keep a history notebook
on hand for tracking progress and reviewing lessons. Even if most reading is done electronically,
keeping a Study Guide on hand, with its instructive collection of reference material,
is likely to reinforce a students understanding of the material he reads, and
help him see the events he reads about in their historical perspective. We
encourage students to customize their history notebooks and add additional information,
but the material contained in the pre-printed Study Guides provide an excellent start.
Study Guide Contents
Each Study Guide packet offered by as part of the Heritage Classical Curriculum
is comprised of four divisions.
The first section, includes recommending reading lists for beginner,
intermediate, and advanced readers, as well as short descriptions of the
core reading assignments. The second section is organized by historical
era and includes timelines, character lists, era summeries, and topic specific
reading lists. The section includes historical maps, outline maps, and
geography terms, and the final section is composed of reproducible "accountability"
records, for keeping track of each student's reading progress.
The Ancient Greece Table of Contents
provides an overview of its subject matter.
The largest portion of the Study Guide is the Historical Eras section,
where information related to a specific time period or region is grouped
together so that students will associate famous events and personages
that they read about with a particular era. We have
found that encouraging students to identify a particular time period with
characters and events helps them remember dozens of historical anecdotes
in their proper context. For example, the historical incidents of
Ancient Greece are divided into the following divisions:
| Era | Dates B.C. | Description |
| Heroic Age | to 800 | Age of myths and legends |
| Greek City States | 800-500 | Foundation of Sparta, Athens |
| Persian Empire | 650-500 | Rise of Persian Empire |
| Persian War | 500-475 | Events of the Persian War |
| Athenian Empire | 475-403 | Gold Age of Athens |
| Decline of Greece | 403-338 | Age of civic decline |
| Hellenistic Age | 338-146 | Period of Macedonian dominance |
| Greco-Roman Era | to A. D. 415 | Greek scholarship under Roman rule |
Since the manner in which the Study Guides are organized are best
illustrated by example, all of the sample pages listed in the section below
refer to the pages in the Ancient Greece Study Guide:
